Learn to use Visual Nexus Version 4

Changing the connection speed on your Visual Nexus software

You can make video calls at data rates from 64Kbs all the way up to 2Mbs.  As the speed increases the video quality should improve.  However, it is important that you understand the maximum data rate that your network connection can support.  You can find out what this rate is by downloading and running the Visual Nexus Network Checker, which is available from the VNonline web portal on your Visual Nexus server.  Calls at data rates of 384Kbs and above will be made at a higher quality video codec, giving a significantly improved image. It should also be noted that you may want to lower the data rate used for a call if you are experiencing network problems, including loss or corruption of image data.

Making a call at a different data rate

In a virtual meeting the bandwidth used is preset by the person who set up the meeting room.  However, in person to person calls you can change the data rate for a call by manually setting up the call.  In the Meeting Manager click [Program] [Call] and the manual call window will appear.

Enter the user name you are calling and then specify if it is an alias, a number or an IP address.

Next click the advanced button and select the Bandwidth tab.  On the drop down menu you can select the bandwidth that you want to place this call at.  Your can go up and down from your standard bandwidth, but your service provider may not support higher bandwidth calls, so please check with your administrator.

One special feature of Visual Nexus is that you can make person to person calls with each user set at a different data rate.  These are the ADSL and special setting on the bandwidth drop down menu.
