Visual Meeting and Collaboration Solutions

The Visual Nexus solution, from OKI Electric in Japan, is a complete visual collaboration solution. The heart of the system is the meeting server which is a software product that acts as a gatekeeper for users registering with the system, sets up calls using a presence based user interface, mixes the audio and video for multiparty calls and has a web based administration system. The visual collaboration system can then be built using software endpoints on existing Windows computers or video conferencing room systems. By adding the Visual Nexus software endpoint to a Windows computer you create a powerful communication tool that can be used to join a video meeting and share data and applications. One of the historical issues in deploying this kind of system is voice and video traffic crossing firewalls and network boundaries. The Visual Nexus secure transport system is a secure way to traverse firewalls with video and voice data. Finally any visual collaboration system must inter operate with the systems you already use. The Visual Nexus SIP option lets you connect the meeting server to IP PBX systems and to Microsoft OCS systems.

The Visual Nexus solution has four different methods for sharing or collaborating online, depending on exactly what the user needs to do.

  • "Show and Play" video and still images through the high quality video system
  • Present Microsoft Office documents to other meeting participants
  • Share and collaborate on any application running on a participants computer (without requiring desktop share)
  • Display documents to video conferencing equipment with the video H.239 standard
